19Labs and MOH Launch Historic Telemedicine Project to Transform Healthcare in Guyana

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, a telemedicine pilot program featuring GALE eClinics has been launched in four remote areas of Guyana. The program aims to provide equitable healthcare to all of Guyana’s citizens and aligns with the vision of creating a ‘world-class’ healthcare system for the country. The program leverages telemedicine technology to connect remote villages with the Georgetown Public Hospital, allowing even the most isolated communities to access top-quality medical care.

The lack of connectivity in remote locations posed a significant challenge to achieving this vision, but the GALE eClinic Telemedicine units, which provide internet connectivity via satellite, have helped bridge this gap. The telemedicine units replicate the full clinical experience, covering general health and specialty care, including prenatal, OBGYN, maternal, cardiac, and chronic condition management.

Ram Fish, CEO of 19Labs, highlighted the transformative potential of this initiative, not only in terms of healthcare but also in empowering local communities and opening doors to different cultures and ways of doing things. The program is expected to expand and make healthcare more equitable across Guyana.
