The collaboration between Atrium Health and Nuance has resulted in the introduction of the Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience Copilot (DAX Copilot) solution. This innovative technology was presented at the 2023 HLTH Conference in Las Vegas.

Atrium Health, a healthcare system, has integrated DAX Copilot into its operations, particularly among its primary care physicians. The adoption of DAX Copilot has garnered strong support from Atrium Health clinicians, with various benefits reported, including:

  1. Ease of Use: 92% of clinicians find DAX Copilot easy to use.
  2. Value of DAX Copilot Access: 85% of clinicians appreciate having access to DAX Copilot.
  3. Improved Documentation: 84% of clinicians report better clinical documentation.
  4. Enhanced Care Delivery: 68% of clinicians have observed improvements in care delivery.

Atrium Health is known for its excellence in various medical specialties, including pediatrics, cancer care, heart care, organ transplants, burn treatments, and specialized musculoskeletal programs. They are also leaders in virtual care and mobile medicine innovations.

Atrium Health has embraced a core concept called the ‘Best Place to Care,’ which includes conducting comprehensive surveys among its healthcare providers to enhance job satisfaction and address burnout risks.

DAX Copilot is designed to streamline the generation of clinical documentation during patient consultations. It liberates healthcare practitioners from administrative tasks, enabling them to focus on delivering personalized patient care. The technology enhances clinical efficiency and reduces the administrative workload, which is often a factor contributing to healthcare provider burnout.

Dr. Matthew Anderson, Senior Vice President and Medical Director of Virtual Health for Advocate Health and Atrium Health’s Senior Medical Director for Primary Care, highlighted the importance of supporting clinician satisfaction, improving clinical efficiency, and enabling physicians and nurses to work at the top of their licensure.

The adoption of DAX Copilot has led to significant benefits, including a 70% reduction in burnout, a 50% reduction in time spent on documentation, a saving of seven minutes per patient encounter, and an average of five additional appointments per clinic day. Clinicians have reported improved work-life balance, higher job satisfaction, more engaging patient interactions, and reduced burnout as a result of using DAX Copilot.

Overall, the collaboration between Atrium Health and Nuance, with the implementation of DAX Copilot, has positively impacted healthcare delivery, clinician satisfaction, and efficiency in clinical processes.
